Amy’s Story

With one week left to go before our Willowbrook Fashion Show, we want to share with you another story from one of our patients (and model!) who has benefitted from using our service.

Amy said: “After being diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer in January 2021, aged 28, with an eight month old son, I had treatment during the pandemic which mean I was alone. Firstly my treatment was palliative chemotherapy to prolong my life, as my life expectancy was six months. However, after six rounds of chemo radiotherapy, and three rounds of brachytherapy, I am now lucky to sat that I have been NED (No Evidence of Disease/no cancer has been detected in my body) for one year!

I was asked to take part in the Willowbrook Fashion Show as I am a patient who uses their service, and they suggested that it might be a great way to boost my confidence.

I have been linked to Willowbrook Hospice Outreach Services since my diagnosis. Willowbrook are trying to change the misconception people might have of hospices, they do more than care for patients with life limiting illnesses.

Personally they have helped me and my family, post treatment, with wellness sessions, respite care, meeting other families in similar situations through support groups, and helping to make memory boxes and bears for our son.

We as a a family cannot thank them enough, as navigating cancer hasn’t been easy but their support has been invaluable to us.

I want to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness and fundraise for them, as a thank you for all that they did for me.

If you can spare any any amount for Willowbrook, or even come along to show your support, it would be greatly appreciated!”
