Every year on 23 November, we celebrate the vital contribution nursing support workers make to patients in health and social care settings.

💙Nursing Support Workers Day💚 is all about recognising and celebrating the often unseen contribution that healthcare supporters workers have to patients, families and carers.

Nursing support workers are the bedrock of our wards, clinics and community teams. The term ’nursing support worker’ encompasses hundreds of different job titles and roles, including health care support workers, assistant practitioners, nursing associates and health care assistants.

They work independently, alongside registered nurses and as part of wider multidisciplinary teams in all health and social care settings.

Our Healthcare Assistants have a critical role to play in delivering high quality care and excellent outcomes for patients, however their vital contribution can often go unnoticed.

Today is time to express our thanks to all of our amazing support team – Your colleagues, wider hospice teams, patient’s and their families, are all so grateful for the work you do and we can’t thank you enough for the critical role you play within nursing teams.

Margaret McConaghy, Inpatient Services Manager said:

“I would just like to say a huge thank you to our amazing Healthcare Assistants and Holistic Support Assistants.

They are so deserving of this recognition as they work incredibly hard every day to ensure that our patients and their loved ones receive outstanding care.

They are an essential part of our team and as nurses, we are extremely lucky to work alongside such dedicated and supportive colleagues.”
