This is Hospice Care – Margaret’s Story

We want to share a heartfelt reason why our supporter and volunteer Margaret chose to bequeath a considerable amount of her estate to Willowbrook Hospice.

“The love and care our son Michael received in the final month of his life was immeasurable.

Michael had his first cancer aged 18, and continued through to his 55th year. Throughout these years, Michael received amazing care from all who looked after him. It was a privilege to see our amazing NHS at its very best, they kept our son alive against all the odds for 37 years.

When it came to the final phase of his life, when hospitals and doctors could do no more, Willowbrook Hospice stepped in and took over with such compassion that nothing could compare.

Nurses and doctors wrapped their arms around Michael and Willowbrook Hospice wrapped their arms around ALL of us.

Our son was given his dignity, received all their love and humour (yes, despite his illness there was a lot of laughing to be heard from his room), nothing was too much trouble. His wellbeing and comfort were on the top of their list, and our wellbeing came a close second.

Willowbrook made saying goodbye to Michael as bearable as it could possibly have been. We will always love the doctors, nurses and all members of staff, even those we may never meet, because we know the love and care that Willowbrook gives every day to every patient will, with our help, always remain.”

Thank you Margaret, for sharing your story, for giving up your time to volunteer for us and for also all the fantastic fundraising efforts you have gone to for our hospice. We are so overwhelmed with your generosity.
