Well done Mike!

Congratulations to Mike Hitchen, who took part in a 47 mile Ultra event and managed to raise a fantastic £1,429 for Willowbrook Hospice!

Mike told us why he chose to fundraise for our hospice:

“My Mum, Ann, sadly died in late 2017, due to throat cancer. She was superbly looked after at Willowbrook Hospice, like they have done for many patients before my Mum and continue doing so for others.

I signed up to run The Lap – a 47 mile ultra event around Windermere, after hearing about the current situation concerning lack of funding for hospices.

According to Hospice UK’s quarterly financial benchmarking survey, the UK hospice sector, which supports 300,000 people annually, is facing a collective estimated deficit of £77 million in the financial year 2023-24.

Hopefully, anyone reading this will never need to access the services of a hospice, but if you do I hope it offers to the level of support and caring as Willowbrook did for my Mum. I managed to complete The Lap (despite getting a little lost at the end and running a bit more that the 47 miles), and came 56th out of over 650 people so am really happy with that!”

Huge thanks Mike for taking on this really hard challenge, you are amazing! 🩵💚
