Our Light Up A Life appeal is an opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us.
This Christmas, we invite you to dedicate a light on our tree to honour your loved one’s memory. The light symbolises the enduring light of their memory in your heart.

Who will be switching on the lights this year?
This year, we are honoured to welcome the Martland family to switch on the lights of our Christmas tree at Willowbrook Hospice, in memory of their much-loved husband, Dad and Grandad, Billy Martland.
Billy was cared for at Willowbrook in October 2022, where his family were able to spend precious time together, surrounded by love, laughter and memories.
Although almost four years have passed since Billy’s passing, his family’s connection with Willowbrook has never faded They continue to fundraise, volunteer and support the hospice, wanting other families to experience the same care and compassion that meant so much to them.
“Willowbrook gave us reassurance and allowed us to be a family. We do this because we want others in the future to have the same level of care that we did.”
This Christmas, the lights will shine in Billy’s memory – celebrating a much-loved husband, Dad and Grandad, and the lasting difference his family continue to make.

When is it happening?
On Saturday 12th December, everyone will be invited to gather from 3.30pm to purchase memory stars to hang on the tree and enjoy some refreshments. Around 3.50pm, we will invite you to gather around the tree. Our service will commence at 4pm and will include readings, Christmas music, choirs and time for reflection.
What is Light Up a Life for?
Suzanne Davies, the hospice’s Fundraising Manager, said: “Light Up A Life is a time for us to bring people together to remember our loved ones and reflect the loss we all feel, especially around Christmas time.
Light Up A Life helps to raise vital funds for the hospice and we would like to thank all of our supporters for their generous donations.”
Books of Honour
For your donation, your loved one’s name(s) will be entered into specially produced books of honour which will be available for you to view at our Light Up A Life service.
All donations received will help to fund the hospice’s medical and nursing services. Due to increased costs we will only be sending cards upon request. Pin badges will be available to purchase on the evening of the event or from any of our shops for £1.50.
