As we continue to put the spotlight on our volunteers, let’s meet Ellouise, who has volunteered at our Billinge shop for two years.
“In my role as a volunteer at Willowbrook, I spend time sorting through donations of clothes, ensuring everything is organised and ready for the sales floor. I also enjoy working on the till, helping customers find what they need. Beyond the tasks, I really love the social aspect – I’m always up for a good chat with fellow volunteers and customers alike!
I started volunteering when my college course last year required me to have some work experience, I was only intending to do for a few weeks and here I am two years later!
The most enjoyable part of volunteering is the people. I have met so many fantastic, hard working volunteers, and knowing that what we do directly helps and supports others.
The skills which I have gained includes fully handling a till, understanding stock rotation, how to use the shop floor window to encourage more customers to come in! (which is really fun to do!).
When I started, I was only 16, and I am almost 18, I was actually quite scared that nobody would trust me because of my age, but they could not have been more supportive (and still are!). I am so happy with the experience this has given me.
I have loved every second of volunteering, the people you work with, and all those who Willowbrook supports makes it all so worthwhile and would absolutely recommend it! If anyone is thinking about volunteering, do it! Come and join an amazing community of people!”
Thank you Ellouise for sharing your story and thank you for your commitment to Willowbrook!
