We were absolutely over the moon to meet young Freddie, who took part in The Steve Prescott Foundation Junior 2k Run at the weekend, and raised an incredible £1,100!!
This is such a fantastic achievement, not only because he is only 9 years old, but because he only signed up to the run four days prior!
Freddie’s mum Rebecca said, “I was speaking out in the car about the road closures coming up. Freddie asked me why the were closing the roads off. When I told him about the St Helens 10k, he said he wanted to do it too! Freddie doesn’t run at all so I was a bit taken aback! He was insisting on doing it, so when I looked into it, I saw they had a Junior one so entered him for that. His big sister Mia joined him on the day as well, we couldn’t believe it when he finished it. Afterwards he said he hated it, but think he actually loved it.
Freddie has ADHD, and struggles with his emotions, but he really wanted to raise money for his Nanna who is currently an inpatient at Willowbrook.
Freddie knew about the work of the hospice, as his Great Grandma Edith was cared for by Willowbrook only four years ago. He saw the numbers rising by the hour, and said he wanted to raise £1,000 and asked would his Nanna get any of that! I explained it would help pay for her medicines and the nurses looking after her at the moment.
Thanks to the power of social media and lots of generous family and friends, he managed to meet his target and a little bit more!
Well done Freddie, you really are an inspiration! ![]()
