Pride of St Helens Awards 2024

We are so proud of two of our Willowbrook volunteers who attended the Pride Of St Helens Awards last weekend.

Kathleen Howard and Luke Grounds both received nominations, and we were delighted to see that Kathleen Howard won the Pride of St. Helen’s Handepay Unsung Hero Award!

Kathleen is one who always makes an effort to help others around Thatto Heath and beyond.

She’s become known as a kind, most caring neighbour and friend to many, whether she knows someone or not she will always reach out to help others.

She is the first port of call for so many families around St Helens and in particular Thatto Heath when they are struggling, whether that be with clothes, food, furniture or anything. She never turns anyone away and has even emptied her own cupboards to make sure no-one goes without.

Kat also volunteers every week at our St Mary’s Shop in St Helens town centre and constantly uses her wide social network to reach out to ask for donations.

A real pillar of the community, she always makes a special effort at Halloween, Christmas and Easter to decorate the outside of her home so that local children can enjoy her fabulous displays.

Well done Kathleen, we are so thrilled for you!

Luke Grounds is one of our Willowbrook Community Champions, and was shortlisted for the Brendon International Charity Champion award, and was given a commendation for all that he does for Willowbrook.

Luke has been a fantastic ambassador for Willowbrook, raising awareness and funds to enable us to continue providing vital care for our community.

Luke attends community events on our behalf and has organised a number of fundraising activities as well as establishing FC Willowbrook, in memory of his dad Andrew, who accessed our services before sadly passing away.

We are so proud of you Luke, and we know your Dad would be too 🩵💚
