Volunteer Spotlight – Bill

Bill, aged 82, has been volunteering for Willowbrook for over ten years and has clocked up over 3000 volunteer hours at our Willowbrook Hospice Sutton Shop & Donations Warehouse.

Bill’s smiling face can be seen four days a week, helping customers unload their donations from their cars, helping the van drivers with their loads and displaying furniture in the shop.

We asked Bill to share his volunteer story….

“Ten years ago, my wife sadly passed away. I went to Willowbrook with a donation after her funeral and started to get upset. The lovely volunteers there were so kind and suggested I start to volunteer for Willowbrook to give me a reason to get out of the house and keep busy.

Straight away I loved it here! It is a lot of fun working with all of the other volunteers, they are such good company! I feel so much better getting out and coming here each week. It’s also fantastic to know that Willowbrook are making money on the till from the items that have been donated which helps to keep the hospice open. I say to anyone who is feeling lonely or upset to come and volunteer here. It’s great!”
