Martin started volunteering for Willowbrook earlier this year and has quickly become a valued member of the gardening team, helping to care for the stunning hospice grounds each week. ![]()
Working alongside the Willowbrook gardeners and a dedicated group of volunteers, Martin helps maintain the tranquil outdoor spaces that bring comfort and peace to patients, families, and staff at Willowbrook.
The gardens are far more than just attractive surroundings – they provide a welcoming place where people can relax, reflect, enjoy the fresh air, and spend precious moments together, whether taking a gentle walk or simply sitting amongst the colourful flowers and greenery.
We asked Martin what he enjoys about volunteering for Willowbrook:
“I love being outside and spending time in these beautiful gardens whatever the weather. Volunteering here has been really good for my mental health and wellbeing. It’s great working with Becky the Head Gardener and chatting with the other volunteers each week – everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Once I finish, I always head to the café and treat myself to lunch!”
If you enjoy being outdoors and would like to help support Willowbrook, please contact Ian or Emma at the Volunteer Hub on 0151 430 8736 or email help@willowbrookhospice.org.uk
You do not need to be an experienced gardener – there are lots of ways to help, including raking, weeding, tidying, and keeping the grounds looking beautiful for everyone who visits.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, stay active, and support the hospice in a meaningful way.
