Florence Nightingale laid the foundation for modern nursing and each year, on the 12th of May, we mark her birthday as International Nurses Day.
At Willowbrook Hospice, today is a day where we celebrate and recognise the hard work of our amazing, dedicated team. Throughout the day, we will be sharing stories from some of our nurses.
Our Clinical Director, Lynda Finney said:
“As a Clinical Director and a nurse, I want to take a moment to thank our incredible hospice nursing team. Your compassion, resilience, and quiet strength are the heart of our care. You walk beside patients and families during their most vulnerable moments, bringing not only clinical expertise but also deep humanity.
You don’t just provide care – you are the care.
Thank you for showing up every day with empathy, integrity, and unwavering dedication. It’s a privilege to work alongside each of you.”
To all of our caring, dedicated and hard-working nurses – thank you for everything that you do. We really are so blessed with our ‘Earth Angels’ as they are often called by our supporters.
We are grateful to our nurses for working tirelessly to make a difference to patients and families across St Helens & Knowsley. Never forget how valued you are, by your patients, your community and your colleagues.
Our nurses were treated to ice cream and cakes at our Head Chef’s makeshift ice cream parlour which was very well received on this gloriously hot day – thank you Ged (aka Giuseppe!) and our catering team!
If you’d like to support the nursing team at Willowbrook Hospice, you can sponsor a nurse for a one off or regular donation:
£10 could pay for a comforting meal for a patient for one day
