We are proud to be supporting the Young Person’s Guarantee programme here at Willowbrook Hospice, and want to share a really lovely success story.
The Liverpool city Region Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) is an incentive programme to get 240 young people into jobs or training over three years, supporting them with one to-one personal advice and mentoring.
This is Paul’s story:
“I left school with no formal qualifications, I went to college and gained a qualification in Painting and Decorating but struggled to find work. When I started with YPG, I had never been in paid employment and needed help with job searching and my CV. I attended one to one sessions to address any barriers and supported with interview techniques etc.
I had an interview with Willowbrook Hospice for a Warehouse/Drivers Assistant role and was offered a 6 month, fixed term contract through the YPG grant.
The support I got was very helpful to get me where I needed to be. Now I am working I feel 1000% better about myself. I’m more confident and a lot happier. I enjoy the job and working for a charity that helps people makes me feel good about myself. We also have a laugh!”
Jane Thompson, manager for St Mary’s Arcade said, “When Paul first started he had a “I can’t” attitude to any tasks given to him. With support and encouragement from the team, he now embraces all aspects of the job role with a smile. He goes above and beyond, often working extra hours and on a voluntary basis during busy periods. He has proven to be a real asset to the team.
Paul’s confidence has noticeably increased. He has some personal connection with Willowbrook which shows, as he wears the uniform with pride. Paul continues to develop and grow both personally and professionally and I am extremely proud of how far he has come!”
